29 NORTH GORE
At the turn of the 20th century a new one story building was built in the business district for a hardware store, it is now home to The Sushi Station
This brick and cast iron cornice building was built in 1900 as a one store front building approximately 1800 sq feet on the street level and similar size basement with walkouts to parking behind. It is styled in the cast iron vernacular. Early merchants included Claude Lang Hardware and Kroger Grocery & Bakery.
The cornice was manufactured by The Mesker Iron Works Company of St. Louis. Here is a story in the Missouri Historical Society's Gateway magazine in 2012.
In 2008 George Hessler & Merrille MacLellan installed a 1935 Liquid Mechanicold Soda Fountain and remodeled the building to become Dr. Jazz Soda Fountain and Grille. The extensive renovation included re-constructing authentic original fountain counters, shelves and back counters. A new kitchen and bathrooms were added and a new restaurant space was born. It was a very popular spot for 5 years.
In 2013 it turned into Fizzy's Soda Fountain and then in 2015 a substantial remodel was done to make it into a more contemporary Sushi Restaurant.
